Klasik Avrupa seyahat rotalarına biraz uzak kalmasından gerek Kuzey Avrupa ve Baltık ülkeleri biraz daha ziyaretçisi az olan yerlerdir.

Baltık Ülkeleri, uzun zamandır gitmeyi planladığım bir destinasyondu. Bilindiği üzere burası Baltık Denizi etrafında konuşlaşmış 3 ülkeyi kapsamaktadır. Bunlar ise Litvanya, Letonya ve Estonya’dır. 1992 yılında kurulan Baltık Denizi Devletleri Konseyi’nden sonra Baltık ülkeleri tabiri İsveç, Norveç, Danimarka, Finlandiya, İzlanda, Almanya, Polonya, Rusya için de kullanılıyor. Ben seyahat tecrübemi bu üç ana Baltık ülkesi üzerinden paylaşacağım.

Litvanya’da, başkent Vilnius şehrini gezebilme imkanı buldum. Şehrin yapısını Barok ve Gotik mimari kaplamasının yanı sıra Vilnia Nehri, şehre farklı bir hava katıyor. Dar sokakları, rengarenk evleri, farklı mimarisi, yolda müziğin buluştuğu kaldırımlar ile adeta ziyaretçilerini selamlıyor.

Şehrin belli başlı tarihi ve ilgimi çeken yerlerini ziyaret ettim ama yazımı çok uzun kılmamak anlamında 3 yerden kısaca bahsedeceğim. Bunlardan biri Gotik mimarili St. Anne’s Kilisesi, rivayete göre Napolyon, şehrin en eski bu kilisesisini çok beğenip Fransa’ya taşımak istiyor, neyse ki evinden koparamamış.

Diğer önemli noktalardan biri Katedral Meydanı. Katedral’in önünde bir farklı renkte taş var ve rivayete göre tek ayak üzerinde üç defa dönebilirsen dileğin kabul olurmuş, adettendir gitmişken ben de denedim ve başardım, gerisi rivayetin gerçekleşmesinde.

Son bahsetmem gereken nokta ise Uzupis, Copenhagen’daki Christiana gibi farklı bir resmi olmayan özerklik kazanmış bölgesidir. Şimdilerde devlet bu duruma karşı da değil destekliyor hatta. Sanatçı ve kreatif insanların yaşadığı bir bölge olmuş ve görülecek yerlerden biri diye düşünüyorum.

Seyahatimin devamında kendimi Letonya’nın başkenti Riga’da buluyorum. Mısır’lı çok sevdiğim arkadaşım Raghda burada EVS yapıyor ve sağ olsun şehre geldiğimde beni hemen karşıladı. Letonya diye söyleyince aklıma Rusya’dan ayrılmış kırık dökük küçük bir ülke geliyordu ama şehri tanıyınca ne kadar beklediğimden farklı bir yapıya sahip olduğunu farkettim. Rengarenk binalar, özgün mimariler ve de arnavut taşlı yolları ile şehirde kayboluyoruz. Şehrin simgesini oluşturan Kedi ise Cat House’dan aldığı söyleniyor. Bir tüccar loncadan kovulunca buna kızıp iki bina yandaki kendi evinin çatısına sırtları dönük iki köşesine kara kedi sembolü koyuyor.

Biraz acıkınca müthiş Letonya yemekleri tadıyoruz. Bu arada Letonya’da isimlerin günleri varmış ve insanlar isminizin olduğu günü de doğum gününüz harici kutluyor. Sıra gerçekten masal şehri Estonya’nın başkenti Tallinn’e geldi. Gerçekten tam bir masal şehri gibi mimarisi ile sizi karşılıyor. Şehri gezmek için yürümeniz yeterlidir. Yürüdüğünüz yolda her yerinde bir detay ile karşılaşıyorsunuz. Japon turistler akın akın ziyaret ediyor. Finlandiya Körfezine komşu bu yerin nüfusu sadece 500 bindir. Şehirdeki 12.yüzyılda gotik mimariyle inşa edilen St. Olaf Church (Aziz Olaf Kilisesi), yapıldığı dönem 159 metrelik yüksekliğiyle Dünya’nın en yüksek yapısıymış ve bu unvanı, uzunca bir süre elinde tutmuş. Şehrin yapısı pek bozulmamış ve Ortaçağ Avrupa hissini sizlere derinden yaşatıyor. Şişman Margaret ve de eski Eczane yine görülmeye değecek noktalardan biri.

Tabii buralara kadar gelmişken Amber, Viking eşyaları ya da denizcilik ile ilgili eşyalar hatıra olarak alabileceğiniz başlıca hediyeler. Due to Northern Europe and the Baltic countries stay place a bit away from the classic European travel routes, there is no many tourist who are visiting here.

The Baltic States were a destination I had planned to go for a long time. As it is known, this includes 3 countries based around the Baltic Sea. These are Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. After the Baltic States Council, which was established in 1992, the term Baltic countries is also used for Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Germany, Poland and Russia. I will share my travel experience through these three main Baltic countries.

In Lithuania, I had the opportunity to visit the capital city of Vilnius. In addition to Baroque and Gothic architecture, the Vilnia River brings a different atmosphere to the city. It welcomes its visitors with its narrow streets, colorful houses, different architecture and sidewalks where music meets the road.

I’ve visited some of the city’s major historical and interesting places, but I’ll talk briefly about three places in order not to make my writing too long. One of them is St. Anne’s Church with Gothic architecture. Rumor has it that Napoleon loves this oldest church and wants to move it to France. Luckily he couldn’t get it out of its place.

Another important point is the Cathedral Square. There is a stone of different colors in front of the cathedral and it is said that if you can turn three times on one leg, your wish is accepted. It is customary that I have tried and succeeded, the rest is in the realization of the rumor.

The last point that I should mention is that Uzupis, like Christiana in Copenhagen, has gained a different informal autonomy. Nowadays, the state already support this situation. It has been an area where artists and creative people live and I think it is one of the places to see.

In the rest of my trip, I find myself in Riga, the capital of Latvia. My Egyptian beloved friend Raghda is doing EVS here and she greeted me right away when I came to city. When I said Latvia, I was imagining as a small country that had broken away from Russia, but when I got to know the city, I realized that it had a different structure than I expected. We are lost in the city with colorful buildings, original architecture and cobblestone roads. The Cat, the symbol of the city, is said to have affected from the Cat House. When a merchant gets fired from the trade council, he gets angry and puts a black cat symbol on the two corners of his house on the roof of his own house two next door to this council building.

When we get a little hungry we taste awesome Latvian food. In Latvia, meanwhile, there are days of names and people celebrate the day of your name outside your birthday. As for the fairytale city of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, it truly welcomes you with a complete fairytale city-like architecture. To see around the city, enough to walk by food. You come across with many details on the road you walk. Japanese tourists are visiting in crowds here. The population of this place adjacent to the Gulf of Finland is only 500 thousand. The city was built in the 12th century with gothic architecture. Olaf Church was the tallest building in the world with a height of 159 meters and it held this title for a long time. The structure of the city is unspoiled and gives you the feeling of Medieval Europe deeply. Fat Margaret and the old pharmacy are also worth a visiting place.

Of course, by the way, Amber, Viking items or maritime items are the main gifts you can get as souvenirs. For the next part of the route, I’m actually going to Helsinki from the port of Tallinn by cruise ferry, but I will be sharing with you a new article for Scandinavian countries.

The summary is that of the 43 countries I’ve been to, the Baltic countries were definitely one of the most enjoyable routes for me, and I would absolutely recommend it to those who think without hesitation.
